ARM to Develop Commercial Products Based On Iospan's AirBurst Technology
ARM Will Develop Non-Line-of-Sight Fixed Broadband Wireless Access System Based On Iospan's AirBurst(TM) Technology for the Indian Market
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 2002--
Iospan Wireless, Inc., the leader in wireless broadband multiple
antenna technology, today announced that it has reached an agreement
with ARM, a leading telecommunications equipment manufacturer in
India, whereby ARM will develop broadband wireless access products
based on Iospan's patented AirBurst(TM) technology that address
India's emerging broadband fixed wireless market.
With business operations in 18 cities, ARM is one of the largest
telecommunications corporations in India, providing telecom products
and services to numerous North American and international technology
leaders, including AT&T, Motorola, Lucent and Nokia. Iospan's
partnership with ARM will allow service providers to quickly and
inexpensively deploy broadband service over large geographic areas
while ensuring multi-megabit data rates that far exceed wireline
broadband media.
"Iospan's innovative AirBurst technology solutions are precisely
what is required to address the cost, capacity, and coverage
requirements of the service providers wishing to deploy broadband
wireless solutions in India," stated Krishna Nandan, Managing Director
of ARM Limited. "ARM intends to productize AirBurst technology
solutions in the quickest possible time to market."
India represents the fastest growing Internet market in the
Asia-Pacific region, with current Internet users estimated to number
7.9 million and forecasted growth to 40 million users by 2005 (source:
Gartner Group). This region has great demand for high-speed Internet
access, but is hampered by the significant time and cost
considerations associated with deploying wireline services. Iospan is
working with ARM to create an alternative broadband service that
delivers multi-megabit speeds with much faster service rollout and
dramatically reduced infrastructure costs compared to wireline
solutions.
"Iospan Wireless is committed to enabling mass-deployment of
Non-LOS broadband wireless access systems worldwide," stated Levent
Gun, Iospan Wireless' president and CEO. "We are extremely pleased to
announce this partnership with ARM that extends our reach into the
fast growing Indian market."
In addition to its relationships with ARM and International
Networks Company, a leading service provider in the Middle East,
Iospan Wireless is partnering with other established systems vendors
to enable service providers to deploy true Non-LOS, broadband wireless
access systems on a mass scale. AirBurst(TM) chipsets, reference
designs, and board-level solutions are designed for delivering
broadband service to both residential and business markets.
Iospan's AirBurst technology is based on a scalable, cellular
architecture that utilizes MIMO-OFDM to dramatically improve spectral
efficiency through the use of smart antenna technology. AirBurst
allows service providers to quickly deploy broadband wireless services
that will successfully compete with existing broadband technologies on
cost, coverage and capacity while greatly enhancing Quality of
Service.
